May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
~Irish Blessing

I called them the " Jewel's with wings" & to me they are the most beautiful insects I have seen in my life. Butterflies belongs to the order "Lepidoptera" . This is derived from the Greek term for 'scale-wing'. Butterflies also belongs to group called " diurnal flying" insects & are the second largest group of pollinators.....next to bees. Butterfly life cycle consists four parts egg, larva, pupa & adult stage. In Sri lanka we have 245 species of butterflies & 23 of them are endemics. This is a very small collection of pictures I have captured from year 2009 to now.

Common Tiger(Danaus genutia)

Blue Tiger (Tirumala limniace)

African Babul Blue (Azanus jesous)

A Butterfly Lights Beside Us

A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam...
and for a brief moment it's glory
and beauty belong to our world...
but then it flies on again, and although
we wish it could have stayed,
we are so thankful to have seen it at all.
